1. Dowload the application form shown on this page. 2. Fill out the form and submit it to the address shown on the form. 3. Include a copy of your resume if you have one. 4. Remit the appropriate examination fee along with the application and resume you send.
Your application will be reviewed by an Examiner, evaluated and a response sent to you via USPS mail and e-mail if you have an e-mail address, within 5 business days of receipt of the application.
If your application is accepted for an examination, the examination procedure will be included in the response.
License conversion procedure:
Follow steps 1-4 as shown above and also include copies of any current Stationary Operating Engineer or Boiler Operator licesnes that you currently hold.
Your application, resume, and license copies will be submitted to the License Conversion Committee for review and evaluation. Once that process is complete you will be notified of their decision by mail.
Examination Fees
An examination fee is charged for each ASOPE license examination taken. If the examination is passed, the fee also includes the first issue of the license for which the examination was taken. License fees are subject to change. Additional charges for special handling and late renewal fees may also apply. Fees are payable to "ASOPE" in the form of check or money order or by credit card. Special limited time license conversion fees may also be authorized by ASOPE for recognized City, State and Marine licensing entities.
The examination fee for the Facility, Power Plant, Combustion Turbine Simple Cycle, Combustion Turbine Combined Cycle, Diesel, Refrigeration, Chiller and Hydroelectric groups of licenses is $45.00 per examination. The annual renewal fee for these licenses is $28.00. Licenses not renewed within 60 days of the renewal date will be suspended until the license-holder takes another examination. If the examination is passed, the license will be re-activated.
The fee for a conversion license issue is $35.00. Conversion issues are licenses that can be obtained based on the individual already holding a valid license from a license-issuing entity that is recognized by ASOPE.
The examination fee for the Technical Instructor license is $40.00 per examination. This license is renewable annually at a fee of $25.00 providing the license-holder complies with the following requirements: Conduct a minimum of 16 hours of technical training or a minimum of 0.7 continuing education units (CEUs) during the previous year.
The examination fee for the Locomotive, Vintage Engine and Traction Engine groups of licenses is $55.00. These licenses are lifetime certifications not requiring annual renewal.
A Retired Engineer License has a one-time charge of $25.00.
Until further notice, anyone taking a license examination for Region 3 will be offered one (1) free re-take if the initial examination is failed.
The following training providers offer Stationary Operating Engineer and related curriculum for a variety of licenses and applications, nation-wide. At the conclusion of their training programs they also offer the opportunity for participants to take ASOPE Operating Engineer License examinations.
